  • Holloway signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Feb. 9. Holloway, 27, held an 8.20 ERA and 45:39 K:BB over 26.3 innings at Triple-A in 2023 split between the Cubs and White Sox systems in his first year as a full-time reliever. The hard-throwing righty has some strikeout upside but hasn't ever been able to find the plate often enough for it to matter.

  • Holloway signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Wednesday. Holloway opted out of his minor-league deal with the Cubs on Saturday, and he has now latched on with Chicago's other organization. The 27-year-old reliever missed the first two months of the season in Triple-A with an oblique injury, and he's surrendered eight earned runs across 6.1 innings since his return.

  • Holloway (oblique) has made two appearances for Triple-A Iowa since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list June 2, working 1.2 innings while allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk. Holloway had been sidelined since spring training after suffering a moderate right oblique strain during a Cactus League appearance. The right-hander was cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Myrtle Beach on May 19 and was advanced to Iowa after striking out nine and giving up just one earned run across 5.1 innings with the lower-level affiliate.

  • Cubs manager David Ross said Holloway suffered a moderate right oblique strain in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Diamondbacks, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. The right-hander, who is attending camp as a non-roster invitee, failed to retire a batter and was charged with two runs on two hits prior to departing. Ross didn't provide a timeline for Holloway, but given the nature of the injury, the right-hander is likely to miss enough Cactus League action to take him out of contention for a spot in the Cubs' Opening Day bullpen.

  • Holloway (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Monday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Fish on the Farm reports. Holloway underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery in August of 2022, so it's unclear whether he's returned to full strength at this time. However, he'll have a chance to battle for a spot on the Opening Day roster once healthy. Holloway figures to compete for a spot in Chicago's bullpen, though he does have big-league experience as a starter.
