Neidert (knee) is scheduled to pitch during Sunday's spring game against the Dodgers, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Neidert signed a minor-league deal with Chicago in November after being outrighted off the Marlins' 40-man roster, and he's now fully recovered from the knee procedure he underwent in September. The 26-year-old made only one appearance in the big leagues last season and had a 1.96 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 48:9 K:BB over 46 innings at Triple-A.

He underwent knee surgery in September, so it's unclear if he will be a full go for spring training. Neidert was non-tendered by the Marlins this offseason. His deal with Chicago includes opt outs on June 1 and July 1. The 26-year-old righty usually works as a starter, but with a career 4.59 ERA and 28:25 K:BB in 49 MLB innings, he may have a better shot of reaching the majors as a reliever.

Triple-A Jacksonville placed Neidert on its 7-day injured list Aug. 9. Neidert was demoted to Triple-A earlier this month after he struck out three and allowed two runs over five innings in a spot start with the Marlins on July 30. The right-hander might have been a candidate to rejoin the big club if the Marlins' rotation depth was further tested in the weeks to come, but his injury will take that possibility off the table for the time being.
