Anderson made a single five-inning relief appearance for the Pirates in 2021, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out just a single batter. He now owns a career 5.82 ERA in 38.2 innings at the highest level, which probably leaves him searching for a minor-league deal this winter. He ended his season on the injured list but was merely dealing with a bruised foot, which is unlikely to be a concern by next spring.

Now the righty, who has a career 6.15 ERA in 33.2 big-league innings between 2018 and 2019, joins the Pirates' minor-league system.

Anderson struggled as a starter in Oakland last season, recording a 6.04 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across five starts. The 26-year-old will have an opportunity to continue to develop during the remainder of spring and likely will begin his 2020 campaign with Triple-A Las Vegas.
