Vilade is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. Vilade had started in right field in each of the past three games, but he went hitless with five strikeouts in nine at-bats and is now slashing .178/.208/.244 over 49 plate appearances with the Tigers on the season. With Matt Vierling (back) returning to the lineup at designated hitter Sunday and likely to return to the outfield in the near future, Vilade will likely return to a reserve role.

The Tigers recalled Vilade from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. The Tigers optioned Vilade to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Though he had picked up starts in the corner outfield in each of the Tigers' last five games while going 6-for-18 with a solo home run, Vilade will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to another utility player in Bligh Madris. Unlike Vilade, Madris is a left-handed batter, so the Tigers may have preferred to have Madris on hand as a potential strong-side platoon option.
