The Tigers selected Lee from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. Lee started the 2024 season in Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers organization before being traded to the Tigers at the end of July. With Triple-A Toledo, the righty posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 22 innings in 17 appearances. The 26-year-old is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft in December.

The Tigers acquired Lee and Joseph Montalvo from the Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for Andrew Chafin, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Lee has missed much of 2024 due to injury but has looked like a potential late-inning relief arm when healthy. He holds a 4.19 ERA and 139:46 K:BB over 105.1 innings during his time at the Triple-A level.

Lee was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Rangers on Sunday. Lee was given a chance to win a spot in the Texas bullpen this spring, but a 4.91 ERA in 7.1 innings of work over seven appearances wasn't good enough. The right-hander will likely report to Triple-A Round Rock and could be an option for Texas at some point this summer.

Lee allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless seventh inning in Friday's spring game against the Royals. Lee is a side-arming righty, trying to hook on in a bullpen that has a couple of open spots. He spent time at Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock in 2022 and struck out 71 batters over 55.1 innings despite a fastball that lived in the upper-80s. "He reminds me a lot of a guy I had for years that had tremendous success - Sergio Romo," manager Bruce Bochy told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. "He's probably got better stuff to be honest. He's intriguing with that delivery." Lee had a 5.46 ERA in Triple-A but was effective against the more advanced hitters following a harsh five-game introduction following his promotion from Frisco.
