Barria agreed in principle to a deal with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization over the weekend and is expected to finalize a contract in the coming days, Kim Geun-han of MKSports.co.kr reports. For the time being, Barria remains under contract with the Guardians on a minor-league deal, but Triple-A Columbus placed him on its development list Friday in anticipation of him signing overseas. The 27-year-old right-hander made 34 appearances (six starts) for the Angels in 2023 but has worked exclusively with Columbus in 2024 after failing to win a big-league roster spot with the Guardians coming out of spring training. In 13 outings for Columbus spanning 24.1 innings, Barria has delivered a 4.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB.

Barria signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Barria rejected an outright assignment from the Angels and became a free agent earlier in the offseason, and he'll now attempt to carve out a role for himself with the Guardians. The 27-year-old righty posted a 5.68 ERA and 1.47 WHIP last year -- a sharp decline from his 2.61 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 2022. Barria's deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training, and a good spring could be enough for him to earn a spot in Cleveland's Opening Day bullpen.

Barria elected free agency Monday. Barria is arbitration eligible this offseason and instead of non-tendering him later the Angels removed him from the 40-man roster now. He has rejected an outright assignment and is now a free agent.

Barria (hamstring) was activated off the injured list Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Barria will wind up missing just over the minimum 15 days with a hamstring issue. Working primarily as a long reliever, he owns a 5.67 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 79.1 innings this season, a far cry from the 2.61 ERA and 1.03 WHIP he managed in the same innings total last year. Jhonathan Diaz was optioned to clear a roster spot for his return.
