The Tigers recalled Malloy from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old will rejoin the MLB club for the start of September as rosters expand to 28 players. Malloy has a .698 OPS with eight home runs in 57 big-league games this season and should see semi-regular playing time in the outfield and at designated hitter.

Malloy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Malloy hasn't hit particularly well in his first taste of the majors, as he's maintained only a .217 average with a 36.3 percent strikeout rate in 204 plate appearances. He's also lost playing time due to the return of Kerry Carpenter, so the Tigers will opt for Malloy to continue his development in the minor leagues for the time being.

Malloy is starting in left field and batting seventh Wednesday against the Tigers. The 24-year-old was initally absent from the starting nine Wednesday, but he'll end up receiving a start since Javier Baez (undisclosed) was scratched. Malloy has a .642 OPS through 10 games in August, and he could see a diminished role going forward with Kerry Carpenter back from the injured list.

Malloy is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Malloy has now sat out both contests since Kerry Carpenter was reinstated from the injured list Tuesday. Carpenter has served as the Tigers' designated hitter both times, so Malloy could see his playing time tick back up if Detroit elects to deploy Carpenter in right field more frequently down the road.

Malloy is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners. Malloy will hit the bench in Kerry Carpenter's first game back from the injured list, as Carpenter slots into the DH spot and Zach McKinstry, Parker Meadows and Matt Vierling fill the outfield. While Carpenter is expected to eventually play right field every day, the Tigers could ease him into action by frequently deploying him at DH, which would eat into Malloy's role.
