The Marlins placed Cronin on the 15-day injured list Friday with left knee tendinitis, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Cronin dealt with an undisclosed injury a few weeks ago, but it's unclear whether that was related to his current issue. The reliever's season will end with him having posted a 4.35 ERA and 72:25 K:BB over 70.1 innings covering 56 appearances.

Cronin (undisclosed) struck out two batters and collected a hold across two perfect innings of relief in his first two appearances of September on Wednesday and Saturday. Cronin was lifted during an extended relief appearance Aug. 29 in Colorado due to an apparent injury, but he returned to action just under a week later to remove any lingering concern about his health. The 26-year-old righty has picked up four of his six holds on the season in the past month and could be primed to pitch in more high-leverage situations down the stretch with Calvin Faucher (shoulder) recently joining Andrew Nardi (elbow) on the shelf.

Cronin was removed from Thursday's game against the Rockies due to an apparent injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Cronin was able to remain in the game after his first visit from the Marlins' training staff, though the decision was eventually made to pull him after he had trouble fielding a groundball in the sixth inning. It's not immediately apparent what is bothering the 26-year-old righty, but the team should have more information on his status sometime after the game.

Cronin has posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 49:17 K:BB through 46 innings with one win, two holds and zero saves over 33 appearances. Claimed off waivers over the winter, Cronin gave the Marlins some quality innings early in the season in a low-leverage role. The league may have figured the right-hander out however -- over his last 12 appearances, he carries a rough 8.27 ERA and 1.84 WHIP. Cronin's biggest strength is a 54.5 percent groundball rate, but he's still been somewhat fortunate to have allowed zero homers so far in 2024. If that luck runs out, further regression could be coming for his ERA. Even if Miami ships out high-leverage relievers like Tanner Scott by the trade deadline, Cronin seems unlikely to take over a prominent role.

Cronin gave up a hit and struck out one in 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday, recording his first hold of the season in a win over the Tigers. The 26-year-old right-hander entered the game in the sixth inning with the Marlins ahead 2-0 and blanked Detroit over 22 pitches (14 strikes) before passing the baton to Andrew Nardi in a combined shutout. Cronin isn't seeing consistent high-leverage usage, but he's been one of the few bright spots in Miami's bullpen this season, posting a 1.33 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB through 20.1 innings in a long-relief role.
