Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Comes through for one-out save

Blake Treinen picked up the save after issuing one walk and striking out one in one-third of an inning during Monday's 2-1 win over the Brewers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.Treinen was called upon in a sticky situation after Roki Sasaki failed to shut down Milwaukee in the bottom of the ninth, taking the mound with runners on first and third and two outs in a one-run game. The veteran reliever responded by walking William Contreras, then retiring Brice Turang via the strikeout with the bases loaded to secure the Game 1 victory. Treinen has had his struggles down the stretch of the regular season and into the postseason, melting down to allow two runs on three hits while failing to retire a batter in Game 3 of the NLDS against Philly, but he's shown flashes of reliability and could be deployed in a future NLCS save opportunity now that Sasaki's confidence has likely taken a hit.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Continues late-season struggles

Blake Treinen (1-7) was charged with a loss and a blown save against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks with no strikeouts over two-thirds of an inning. After Emmet Sheehan gave the Los Angeles Dodgers seven scoreless, one-hit innings, Treinen entered in the eighth to try to preserve a 1-0 lead. The veteran reliever got into trouble immediately, allowing a pair of singles and then a ground-rule, run-scoring double as San Francisco tied the score. Treinen next retired his first batter, but he followed an intentional walk with a non-intentional one to force in another run, then allowed an RBI groundout for the final tally on his line. It's been a very rough September for the right-hander, who has posted an uncharacteristic 11.57 ERA, 2.43 WHIP and 6:9 K:BB while taking five losses over nine appearances spanning seven innings this month. Treinen was a big part of Los Angeles' run to the championship last year, but it's fair to wonder if manager Dave Roberts will feel comfortable going to him in high-leverage situations at the start of the postseason given Treinen's recent struggles.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Can't convert save chance

Blake Treinen didn't allow a run but yielded a hit and two walks while striking out two batters over two-thirds of an inning Sunday against Tampa Bay.With the Los Angeles Dodgers up 3-0 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, manager Dave Roberts called upon Treinen to close things out. While the right-hander got two outs via punchout, he also put three runners on base and was pulled with two outs after walking Taylor Walls to bring the winning run to the plate. Ben Casparius entered and got Yandy Diaz to ground out to notch the save and shield Treinen from being charged with any runs, but this was Treinen's third shaky outing in a row since coming off the injured list last Sunday. Over those three appearances, the veteran reliever has surrendered five hits and four walks across just 1.2 frames, but he's managed to be charged with just one run. Los Angeles doesn't have a set closer at the moment with Tanner Scott (elbow) on the injured list, and Treinen is certainly among the candidates to get ninth-inning opportunities, as he did Sunday. However, his recent struggles may prompt Roberts to turn to another arm -- perhaps Casparius or lefty Alex Vesia -- the next time a save situation arises.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Struggles in return to mound

Blake Treinen allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out two batters over two-thirds of an inning against the Reds on Monday.Treinen was reinstated Sunday from a lengthy stay on the injured list due to a forearm injury and saw his first MLB game action in over three months Monday. Though he didn't enter in a save situation, the right-hander did get the ball in the ninth inning with Los Angeles holding a 5-1 lead. Treinen looked rusty in the outing, throwing just 15 of 25 pitches for strikes and walking a pair. After issuing a free pass to TJ Friedl to load the bases with two outs, manager Dave Roberts elected to turn to Jack Dreyer, who was able to nab a save by getting Matt McLain to ground out. With Tanner Scott (elbow) currently on the IL and without a definite timeline for a return, the Los Angeles Dodgers' closer situation is nebulous, and Treinen could certainly factor into the mix, though Roberts may first want to allow him to shake off any cobwebs lingering from the extended absence. The Dodgers are also rumored to be seeking bullpen help as the trade deadline approaches.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Makes return from IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Blake Treinen (forearm) from the 60-day injured list Sunday.Treinen has been cleared to rejoin the Los Angeles bullpen for the first time since mid-April following a prolonged recovery from a right forearm injury. The veteran righty struck out 10 batters while allowing just two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk over seven rehab innings between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Oklahoma City. Treinen could enter the mix for saves after Tanner Scott (elbow) was recently placed on the 15-day IL, but the Dodgers' ninth-inning picture is already crowded even before any trade-deadline acquisitions are added to the roster.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Makes third rehab appearance

Blake Treinen (forearm) pitched one inning Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one batter, in a minor-league rehab outing with the Los Angeles Dodgers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.Treinen's first two rehab appearances came with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he moved to the ACL team for Tuesday's outing because Los Angeles' other minor-league affiliates are out of action during the MLB All-Star break. The righty reliever served up a solo homer to Guardians prospect Dauri Fernandez but retired the other three batters he faced. Treinen has completed exactly one frame in each of his three rehab outings to date, giving up a combined two runs (one earned) on one hit with a 4:1 K:BB. He'll likely be back with the Dodgers at or shortly after the start of the second half of the big-league campaign.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Making rehab appearance Wednesday

Blake Treinen (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Treinen has been shelved since mid-April with a right forearm sprain, so he will likely need a handful of rehab outings before rejoining the Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen. The veteran reliever could be back on the active roster for the start of the second half if all goes well during his rehab assignment.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Could be close to rehab stint

Blake Treinen (forearm) is scheduled to throw to hitters Saturday, and his following step could be a minor-league rehab assignment, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.Treinen first threw to live hitters Wednesday and is lined up to throw one simulated inning Saturday. If all goes well in that session, his next appearance on the mound could take place in a minor-league game. Treinen hasn't pitched in a contest since April 13, so he'll presumably need to make multiple rehab outings before he's ready to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Facing hitters Wednesday

Blake Treinen (forearm) will participate in live at-bats Wednesday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.Treinen will throw to live hitters for the first time in his recovery from a right forearm sprain, which has sidelined him since mid-April. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, and Wednesday's session will be a major step in determining if he's ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Continues to progress toward return

Blake Treinen (forearm) has advanced to using his entire pitch mix during his throwing progression, per MLB.com.Treinen resumed playing catch in mid-May, and he then began throwing bullpens in early June. The right-handed reliever recently became eligible to be activated from the 60-day IL, but he probably won't return to the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen until at least early July. Trienen will likely be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment before he's ready to face big-league batters again.
