Nick Gordon was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.Gordon cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins on Monday, and he now appears to be set to report to Triple-A Jacksonville, though he can elect free agency instead since he has more than three years of MLB service time. The 28-year-old has produced a .227 average with eight home runs, 32 RBI, 29 runs scored and five stolen bases this season.

The Miami Marlins designated Nick Gordon for assignment Monday.Gordon had recaptured a near-everyday role in the Miami outfield toward the end of July, but he failed to do much with the more consistent playing time. He had submitted a lowly .449 OPS since the All-Star break and had not fared much better on the season, producing a .227/.258/.369 slash line across 275 plate appearances. Since he has the ability to play multiple outfield and infield spots and is under contract at an affordable $900,000 salary, Gordon could draw some interest on the waiver wire from teams looking to bolster their bench, but he's unlikely to see regular at-bats no matter where lands.
