The Detroit Tigers selected Tyler Owens from Double-A Erie on Tuesday.Owens started the year with Double-A Frisco for the Rangers, but he was traded to the Tigers in July. He resumed play with Double-A Erie, where he notched a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings of work. The 23-year-old is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft.

The Detroit Tigers acquired Tyler Owens and catcher Liam Hicks from the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for catcher Carson Kelly, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.Owens will be on the move for the second time in his young career, as Texas had previously acquired him from Atlanta in January. The right-hander compiled a respectable 2.80 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 35 strikeouts over 35.1 innings in 26 appearances with Double-A Frisco this season.

Rangers' Tyler Owens: Shipped to Texas
The Texas Rangers acquired Tyler Owens from Atlanta on Friday in exchange for J.P. Martinez.Texas needed to clear a spot on its 40-man roster for the addition of David Robertson. Owens does not need to be added to the 40-man yet but is a nice-looking relief prospect who held a 3.03 ERA and 67:22 K:BB over 65.1 frames between High-A Rome and Double-A Mississippi in 2023. The 23-year-old will likely report to Double-A Frisco to start the 2024 season.
