Giants' Camilo Doval: Shaky in 23rd save

Camilo Doval earned the save in Friday's 2-1 win at Kansas City while allowing one run on no hits and two walks over one inning. He struck out two. After Ryan Walker had thrown 35 pitches over the previous two games and blown a save via walk-off homer Thursday, Doval was called upon in the ninth Friday. The former San Francisco Giants closer looked rusty, as he opened the ninth with back-to-back walks. A groundout allowed both runners to move up a base, setting the table for a Garrett Hampson sacrifice fly to drive in the Royals' first run. However, Doval recovered to punch out the next batter, Tommy Pham, to end the game. Since being recalled from Triple-A on Aug. 24, Doval has pitched to a 7.36 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB across 11 innings. He remains, at best, a secondary option for saves in San Francisco so long as Walker is around.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Loses again Sunday

Camilo Doval (5-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out one over one inning, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Padres on Sunday.Doval worked the 10th inning but couldn't keep the Padres in check. He had appeared to stabilize his performance after returning from a stint at Triple-A Sacramento in August, but he's faded again in September, allowing nine runs (eight earned) over 6.2 innings this month. Doval is now at a 5.17 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 71:36 K:BB with 22 saves and three holds over 54 innings, but he could be out of the high-leverage picture by the end of the campaign given his current trend.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Takes second loss

Camilo Doval took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing one run on one walk over one inning while striking out one.Doval didn't have his best stuff when he took the mound in the seventh inning, issuing a leadoff walk to Willy Adames before then being charged with three wild pitches in the frame -- the latter of which would lead to Adames coming home to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. The right-hander is having an awful September as a middle reliever for San Francisco as he's now allowed at least one run in four of six appearances this month, pushing his season-long ERA up to 5.02. He's also allowed runs in back-to-back outings.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Snags win Tuesday

Camilo Doval (5-1) allowed a hit and two walks while striking out two in a scoreless inning to earn the win Tuesday over the Brewers.Doval relieved Logan Webb in the sixth inning and quickly got two outs before loading the bases. Doval was able to get Jackson Chourio to fly out, ending the threat and setting the stage for the San Francisco Giants to pull ahead for good on a Mike Yastrzemski two-run home run in the seventh. Doval hasn't allowed a run over 2.1 innings since he was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento, but he has walked three batters in that span. A high walk rate was a big part of what led to his demotion, and it'll continue to keep him out of the biggest spots in games moving forward. For the year, Doval has a 4.47 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 60:32 K:BB across 46.1 innings. He's no threat to Ryan Walker as the Giants' closer at this time.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Returns to big club

The San Francisco Giants recalled Camilo Doval from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.Doval was optioned to Sacramento on Aug. 9 after blowing his fifth save of the season the day prior. Over his final four minor-league outings, Doval threw 4.2 scoreless innings while recording five strikeouts to earn the call back to the majors. Ryan Walker had taken over as the Giants' closer since Doval's demotion and has gone 3-for-3 in save chances, so Doval could have to settle for a setup role now that he's back with the big club.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Expected back on road trip

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that he expects Camilo Doval to be recalled from Triple-A Sacramento sometime during the team's Aug. 23-29 road trip, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. What role Doval would fill has not yet been determined, as Ryan Walker has been excellent since taking over the closer role. Since being demoted to Sacramento, Doval has allowed two runs with a 5:1 K:BB over four innings of work. Just one free pass is encouraging to see, as Doval's 13.3 percent walk rate was a major reason why the Giants opted to send him down. When the former closer does rejoin the big-league bullpen, he could work in low-leverage spots initially.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Optioned to Triple-A

The San Francisco Giants optioned Camilo Doval to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. The decision to send Doval to the minors comes after he gave up three earned runs in one inning and was charged with his fifth blown save Thursday. The 27-year-old righty will attempt to get back on track with Sacramento after recording a 6.75 ERA and 1.83 WHIP through 21.1 innings since June 2. Ryan Walker and Tyler Rogers are likely the favorites to pitch in save situations for the Giants, and Landen Roupp will come up from Triple-A to replenish San Francisco's bullpen depth.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Blows fifth save

Camilo Doval (4-1) was credited with the win and charged with a blown save Thursday, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks over one inning against the Nationals. He did not record a strikeout.Doval entered the ninth with a three-run lead but walked two batters which set up Luis Garcia's two-out, two-strike homer to left that tied the game. It was the fifth blown save of the season for Doval, who was then bailed out when the San Francisco Giants scored four in the top of the 10th to provide him with his fourth win. Doval is now 4-1 with 22 saves on the season, though the three runs allowed lifted his ERA from 4.29 to 4.70 to go along with a 1.61 WHIP and 56 strikeouts over 44 innings.

Giants' Camilo Doval: Escapes with 22nd save

Camilo Doval gave up a hit, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his 22nd save of the season in a 7-4 win over the Nationals. The right-hander got into trouble by loading the bases with one out, but Doval coaxed a double-play grounder out of Alex Call to end the game. The San Francisco Giants' closer has been shaky of late, posting a 5.68 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in 6.1 innings over his last seven appearances, but he's still managed to successfully convert his last five save chances.
