Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Earns sixth win
Hurston Waldrep (6-1) got the win over the Nationals on Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and four walks while striking out five in six innings. Some control issues in the third inning led to a run for the Nationals, but Waldrep was otherwise excellent in what was the final start of his rookie season. Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Battles control in no-decision
Hurston Waldrep didn't factor into the decision against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks while striking out five over five innings. The right-hander battled command issues throughout the outing, issuing a season-high five free passes, but he managed to limit the damage to a Julio Rodriguez homer in the first inning. It marked the first time in seven MLB starts this season that Waldrep allowed more than one run, as he had previously been nearly untouchable since his call-up. While he has shown swing-and-miss stuff, the walks continue to be a concern and have capped his ability to work deeper into games. The 23-year-old will carry a 1.33 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB across 40.2 innings into his next scheduled start against the Astros.

Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Remaining in rotation
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker indicated after Saturday's doubleheader against the Marlins that Hurston Waldrep will remain in the big-league rotation, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. "He was a first-round pick because he had arm strength and an out pitch with the split, but now he's pitching [well]," Snitker said. "He's mixing the curveball, the split's still a really good pitch for him, the sinker instead of [four-seamer]. He's not having to pitch at 98 [miles per hour] to be effective. His command's a lot better."Atlanta is looking ahead to 2026, and Waldrep will get a prolonged audition in the majors as a result. The 2023 first-round pick has a 1.54 ERA and 10:3 K:BB over 11.2 innings with the big club in August, extending a hot streak that had seen the right-hander post a 1.99 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB across his last 40.2 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett. Assuming Atlanta elects to maintain a five-man rotation during the upcoming week, Erick Fedde or Carlos Carrasco will likely be pushed to the bullpen or off the roster entirely to accommodate Waldrep.
