Steven Wilson (back) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.Wilson was placed on the IL on Aug. 17 with a lower-back strain, but the fact that he's already heading out on a rehab assignment suggests that he should be ready to rejoin the Chicago White Sox when he's first eligible Friday, or shortly thereafter. With the active roster expanding to 28 players Sunday, the White Sox could wait until that day to bring the righty reliever back.

The Padres traded Steven Wilson, Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala and Jairo Iriarte to the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for Dylan Cease, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.Wilson logged a 3.91 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 53 innings last season with the Padres, though he spent the final month of the year on the IL due to left hip inflammation.
