Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Sidelined with forearm strain
Ryan Weathers will begin the season on the injured list due to a left forearm strain, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.Weathers had been having a fantastic spring, allowing just two runs (one earned) while striking out 11 batters through 11.1 frames. However, he came away from his last start with discomfort in his forearm and is expected to miss the first 4-to-6 weeks of the regular season. The Miami Marlins now have an open spot in their rotation to fill before Opening Day, and manager Clayton McCullough has mentioned Janson Junk as a leading candidate to fill in while Weathers is out, per Azout.

Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Blanks Atlanta on Thursday
Ryan Weathers walked three and struck out three over 2.1 scoreless, no-hit innings during Thursday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. In his second outing of the spring, Weathers faced a potential Opening Day lineup for the Miami Marlins' NL East rivals and overcame a very bumpy start to his day. Three free passes and a wild pitch loaded the bases before the left-hander could record an out, but none of the runners made it home and Weathers regained his focus before coming back out for the second inning. Inconsistent control was a hallmark of his minor-league career, and through 4.1 spring frames he's posted a 7:4 K:BB, but he also has yet to allow a hit or a run. If Weathers can stay healthy in 2025 -- a finger injury limited him to 16 starts last season -- he has the talent to break out after posting a 3.63 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 80:24 K:BB over 86.2 regular-season innings last season.

Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Can't keep ball in park in return
Ryan Weathers (3-6) took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 4.1 innings.Weathers made his first major-league start since June 7 following a stint on the injured list due to a finger injury. All of Los Angeles' runs against the left-hander came via the long ball, and the majority of the damage came in a five-run fourth inning that included a two-run blast by Tommy Edman and a three-run shot off the bat of Enrique Hernandez. The barrage of homers hasn't been typical for Weathers this season -- prior to Wednesday, he hadn't given up multiple home runs in any of his 13 outings and had surrendered a tolerable eight long balls over 71 frames overall.

Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Activated for start Wednesday
The Miami Marlins reinstated Ryan Weathers (finger) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Dodgers in Miami.Miami designated long reliever Jeff Lindgren for assignment to clear room for Weathers on the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster. The southpaw had delivered five consecutive quality starts plus an 11-strikeout outing before he was lifted from his last appearance June 7 due to a left index finger strain. Though Weathers' return from the IL took longer than expected, he'll likely be in store for two more starts with the Marlins to close out the season. Weathers should be stretched out enough to handle somewhere close to a typical starter's workload after he tossed 78 pitches over five scoreless innings last Friday in his final rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville.
