Padres second baseman Logan Forsythe was unable to return to the starting lineup Friday against the Cardinals, due to lingering soreness in his right knee. Forsythe missed the final game before the All-Star break due to the injury, bus is not expected to require a trip to the disabled list. 

Agent Scott Boras wants to talk to the Nationals about his client, Danny Espinosa , according to The Washington Post. 

Espinosa was demoted to find his swing, and has performed well lately. Boras wants to talk to general manager Mike Rizzo regarding his plans for Espinosa. Espinosa has collected 14 hits in his last 10 games at Triple-A Syracuse. He's been playing shortstop and second base. With rookie Anthony Rendon playing well in the majors, Espinosa may be out of a role with the club. 

In 158 at-bats, Espinosa is hitting .158/.193/.272 in the majors. 

Padres manager Bud Black said Sunday that second baseman Logan Forsythe left Saturday's game against the Giants with a sore right knee, according to MLB.com.

Forsythe was not in the lineup Sunday but is not expected to go the disabled list. He's hitting .226/.303/.349 with three homers and 11 RBI in 106 at-bats.

Nationals shortstop Danny Espinosa 's struggles have continued unabated since joining Triple-A Syracuse, and at this point it is not clear when he will be able to return to the majors. Espinosa is still trying to recover from a wrist injury.

Espinosa is batting just .094 in 64 at-bats, with 33 strikeouts in 19 games.

"I saw his approach," manager Davey Johnson told MASNSports.com Wednesday. "He has changed a little bit in his approach. He is still trying to hit the ball hard, every swing is pretty hard. I think his thing is more mental approach. I think he has got the misguided opinion that it is OK to hit .220 and hit 20 home runs."

Johnson said Espinosa is physically recovered from his wrist and shoulder woes, but he is still working on his swing. Johnson does think Espinosa will be back with the Nationals before the end of the season.

"He will get it," Johnson said. "He will lock in. Sometimes it is a flick of the switch and a light comes on in the room. It is that simple. He just needs to get his mind concentrating. He thinks about 100 different things too much. You just need to focus."

Padres second baseman Logan Forsythe, who hit fifth through seventh upon joining the Padres in mid-June, has settled into the leadoff spot with shortstop Everth Cabrera on the shelf.

Forsythe has started nine straight games atop the Padres lineup and is 6 for 13 with one home run, three RBI, three runs and one stolen base over his last three games. He has hit .300/.351/.471 with three home runs, 11 RBI and two steals in 70 at-bats.

Padres infielder Logan Forsythe hit safely for the sixth time in seven games Sunday against the Dodgers. He's batting .379 (11 for 29) with one double, one home run, two RBI and four runs in that span.

Since coming off the disabled list June 10, Forsythe is batting .319 (15 for 47) with one double, two home runs and eight RBI in 13 games. Forsythe missed the start of the season recovering from plantar fasciitis.

Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa has been used as a shortstop in Triple-A. 

Espinosa played short both games this weekend. Espinosa initially came up as a shortstop, but moved to second once he reached the majors. With Anthony Rendon taking the job at second, Espinosa will need to show some versatility if he hopes to return to Washington. He's hitting .158/.193/.272 in 158 at-bats. 

The Nationals have reinstated second baseman Danny Espinosa from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse, The Washington Times reports.

Espinosa has been at Syracuse for six games on a rehab assignment, in which he has hit a brutal .118/.238/.118. Espinosa has been dealing with a fractured right wrist for much of the season. General manager Mike Rizzo previously said Espinosa needs to "show what he's capable of," and so he'll have to start hitting at Syracuse if he is to get a chance to unseat Anthony Rendon at second base in Washington.

Padres second baseman Logan Forsythe totaled a season-high three hits Monday against the Giants. He also had his first double.

Forsythe entered play Monday with two hits in his previous five games and four hits in his first six games. He's now batting .292 (7 for 24).

Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa (wrist) continues to make progress during his minor-league rehab assignment, meaning the team could soon be forced to make a roster decision. But Anthony Rendon's emergence at second base makes it a tougher than expected decision for the Nationals, who expected Espinosa to resume his duties at second base once healthy.

"Now that Danny is healthy he needs to go ahead and show what he is capable of doing," manager Davey Johnson said Monday, per The Washington Post. "He certainly has the talent to do it. What Rendon is doing doesn’t have any bearing on what he is doing. He needs to get comfortable on both sides of the dish and do the things he is capable of doing. I know he is handling it defensively. Is he in a good frame of mind? Is he getting in a good groove left and right? And not worry about anything other than that.”

General manager Mike Rizzo said previously Espinosa, who hit .158 prior to going on the DL, could end up in the minors once he's ready to return and it's becoming a real possibility thanks to Rendon, who is batting .344 in 18 games.

"I don’t think there’s a better defensive second baseman in the league than Danny Espinosa," Johnson said. "But the one thing we want is Danny to be comfortable on both sides of the dish. And when he does that, he could be All-Star. It’s that simple."
