Reginald Preciado (knee) has gone 4-for-20 with three walks and nine strikeouts in six games since beginning a rehab assignment Aug. 8 in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.Assuming he hasn't experienced any setbacks with his left knee since starting up his rehab assignment, Preciado should soon be ready to return from Single-A Myrtle Beach's 7-day injured list. Prior to being shut down in mid-June with the injury, the 19-year-old infielder was hitting .216/.282/.313 in 36 games at Myrtle Beach.

Cubs' Reginald Preciado: Brutal results in Single-A
Reginald Preciado is hitting just .178/.197/.247 with no homers, no steals and a 2:37 BB:K for Single-A Myrtle Beach.A highly rated prospect entering the season after last year's impressive showing in rookie ball, Preciado has struck out in nearly half of his plate appearances (48.7 percent) this year. He had one good game May 4 against Salem, when he went 4-for-6 with two doubles and six RBI; unfortunately, that one game represents 30 percent of his hits and two-thirds of his RBI across 18 games in Single-A. The bright side for Preciado is that he's still a few days shy of his 19th birthday, so he has plenty of time to figure things out and tap into his considerable raw tools -- but given his ugly stats in 2022 and distance from the big leagues, fantasy managers can't be blamed for moving on to prospects with more immediate upside.

Cubs' Reginald Preciado: Showing plenty of promise
Reginald Preciado concluded the rookie-level Arizona Complex League season with a .333/.383/.511 slash line, three homers, seven steals, 25 RBI and 28 runs in 34 games. That's quite the productive campaign, especially considering that Preciado only turned 18 in May. He couldn't quite keep up the blistering pace he started on, but he still got wood on the ball with an amazing level of consistency -- he only went hitless eight times in those 34 contests. With his 6-foot-4 frame, more power production will come, though his speed may fade as he continues developing physically. Preciado will likely start 2022 in Low-A, and if he can sustain this sort of productivity, he could find himself in the top-10 prospect conversation before too long. He's still several years off from the majors, though.

Cubs' Reginald Preciado: Crushing in rookie ball
Reginald Preciado has hit .379/.463/.534 with two homers, four steals, 10 RBI and 13 runs across his first 15 games for the rookie-level ACL Chicago Cubs. The 18-year-old's first taste of affiliated ball could hardly be going better, and his prospect star is on the rise now that his promising scouting reports have turned into promising results at the dish. Preciado doesn't play a very sharp shortstop, but he's looked fine at third base so far, and that's probably his eventual landing spot. The Panamanian is several years from the majors, but he looks like one of the most promising young players in the low minors.

Cubs' Reginald Preciado: Shipped to Chicago
Reginald Preciado was traded to the Chicago Cubs on Monday as part of the trade that sent Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini to San Diego, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.A 6-foot-4 shortstop from Panama, Preciado has a very high ceiling but has not yet played in an affiliated league, having signed in 2019 at the age of 16 for $1.3 million. He could grow into impact power while sticking at a premium position. Zach Davies, Owen Caissie, Yeison Santana and Ismael Mena were also shipped to Chicago in the deal.

Padres' Reggie Preciado: Joins 60-man roster
Reginald Preciado was added to the San Diego Padres' player pool Tuesday. The Panamanian-born infielder signed with the Padres last July but was withheld from minor-league action. He's extremely raw and still only 17 years of age, so his addition to the player pool is purely for developmental reasons at the team's alternate training site.
