Okogie declined his $2.96 million player option for the 2024-25 season and enter unrestricted free agency, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
Evan Sidery of Forbes.com previously reported that Okogie planned to exercise his option and remain with the Suns, but Gerald Bourguet of GoPHNX.com relays the Suns want to re-sign Okogie to a slightly larger deal. Declining the player option is the first step in setting in motion a return to Phoenix on a larger deal, though Okogie will surely listen to what other offers might exist for him in free agency before putting pen to paper on a new deal with the Suns. Okogie had a reduced role for Phoenix during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 4.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.0 minutes across 60 regular-season appearances. The 25-year-old finished the season without a spot in former head coach Frank Vogel's rotation, but Okogie could re-establish himself under new coach Mike Budenholzer if he does in fact stick around in Phoenix.
