Smith is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Suns, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Smith will return to the bench due to the presence of Fred VanVleet (ankle) in the starting lineup. Smith has played off the bench in five of his previous 10 contests, averaging 12.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
