49ers' Trey Lance: Picks up sprained knee
Lance suffered a left knee sprain during Sunday's 17-10 loss at Arizona, leaving his status for the 49ers' next game Oct. 24 against the Colts in question, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
The 49ers enter their Week 6 bye with clouds hanging over both quarterbacks on their active roster. Jimmy Garoppolo missed the past game and a half due to a calf contusion, but the team expects him to retake the reins of the offense as soon as he's healthy. Meanwhile, Lance -- the third overall pick in the 2021 draft -- completed 24 of 47 passes for 349 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and recorded 23 carries for 130 yards over the last two games. Coach Kyle Shanahan told Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site that Lance's injury "should be a 1-to-2 week thing. But possibly just one." Lance is expected to be evaluated again at the end of this week, but as Shanahan mentioned the 49ers are optimistic he'll be available Week 7. Whether or not Lance gets another start, however, remains to be seen.
