Fields underwent a precautionary X-ray on his right throwing hand after Sunday's 26-6 loss at Cleveland, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports. It was returned negative, and Fields called himself "fine."
Fields had a less than desirable first NFL start in place of Andy Dalton (knee), completing six of 20 passes for 68 yards. On top of the dismal passing performance, Fields was sacked nine times and had three carries for 12 yards. There's a chance Dalton is sidelined beyond Week 3, and if he is Fields again would line up under center next Sunday against the Lions, assuming the assessment of his hand injury is correct and he's able to suit up.
