The Bears have ruled out Fields (ribs) for Thursday's game at Detroit.
Fields always appeared to be trending toward sitting out Thanksgiving Day after he was a non-participant at walk-through sessions Monday and Tuesday and after head coach Matt Nagy officially named Andy Dalton the Bears' Week 12 starting quarterback Tuesday. With another absence from practice Wednesday, Fields now won't be available Thursday due to the bruised ribs he picked up this past Sunday against the Ravens, making his next possible appearance Dec. 5 against the Cardinals. Behind Dalton, Chicago will have Nick Foles available as his backup this week.
