Bates (shoulder) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Bates now has a 21-day window to practice with the team before needing to be placed on the active roster. Although the Bears only held a walkthrough Wednesday, the Penn State product was listed as a limited participant for the session.
