Smoot (toe) has been ruled out for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cardinals.
Smoot practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday, but he popped up on Friday's injury report with a toe injury, which appears severe enough for him to be sidelined for Week 1. Casey Toohill and Von Miller will be the primary backup defensive ends Sunday behind starters Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa.
