Winston completed 23 of 33 passes for 281 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 31-24 victory over the Falcons. He added three rushing yards on four carries.
The sophomore signal-caller could hardly have gotten off to a better start in a 2016 campaign that is laden with high expectations. Winston showed impressive rapport with Mike Evans, including on a spectacular 45-yard bomb in the third quarter, while also spreading the ball around to seven additional receivers. He put his options to full use in the red zone, connecting with forgotten man Brandon Myers for a four-yard score, hitting versatile back Charles Sims for another touchdown and finding the oft-maligned but talented Austin Seferian-Jenkins for a beautiful diving 30-yard touchdown reception as well. Winston showed impressive resolve in bouncing back from his one mistake, a first-quarter pick by Desmond Trufant on a throw intended for Vincent Jackson. After an offseason of intense preparation that included a notable weight loss, Winston looks primed for a breakout campaign if his Week 1 performance is any indication.
