The Colts designated Ehlinger (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.

Ehlinger participated in practice Wednesday for the first time since injuring his knee in the Colts' preseason finale. The quarterback is eligible to return from IR as soon as this weekend's game against the Dolphins, but the Colts will have a full 21-day window to evaluate Ehlinger for an addition to the 53-man roster. Assuming Ehlinger isn't activated prior to Sunday's contest, Brett Hundley is in line to serve as Carson Wentz's backup.
