The Commanders placed Newton (pectoral) on injured reserve Monday.
Newton underwent surgery to repair a torn pectoral on Aug. 20. The defensive tackle will be required to miss the first four games of the regular season at minimum before he is eligible for activation. Newton will likely take longer to return, but has a good chance of participating in the tail end of the regular season if his recovery stays on schedule.
