Gates is expected to sign with the Commanders, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Gates will have an opportunity to take over at center in Washington. He played 10 games last season for the Giants after missing the first few weeks of the season while still recovering from a broken leg suffered during the 2021 campaign. He started eight of those contests, mostly playing left guard.
