Carson could be the top backup at cornerback for the Cowboys this season, Nick Harris of the team's website reports.

The 2024 fifth-round pick out of Wake Forest would likely have been a Day 2 selection if not for injury concerns, but he's been healthy in training camp and flashing an all-around skill set. Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland are set as the starting boundary corners and Jourdan Lewis is locked in as the top option in the slot, but Carson's versatility could make him the next man up at all three spots as well as allow him to work into nickel and dime packages -- a role that could put him on the field a lot more often than expected given that Diggs is coming back from an ACL tear and Lewis played in only six games in 2022 due to foot surgery.
