The Dolphins designated Wilson (midsection/finger) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
The transaction opens up a 21-day window for the Dolphins to evaluate Wilson in practice before deciding whether to add him to the 53-man roster or keep him on IR for the rest of the season. Wilson's return to practice Wednesday coincides with head coach Mike McDaniel's confirmation that rookie De'Von Achane (knee) will be placed on IR. Wilson spent the first five weeks of the season on IR while recovering from the pair of injuries, but if he turns in a strong week of practice, it's possible he could be activated ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers. Whether the Dolphins opt to bring him back for Week 6 or at a later date, Wilson could settle in as the top complement to lead back Raheem Mostert while Achane is sidelined.
