Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Mostert (chest) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bills, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Mostert sustained the chest injury in the Dolphins' season-opening win over the Jaguars on Sunday, with Furones relaying that the veteran running back attempted to play through the issue. The Dolphins won't rush Mostert back on the field in a short week, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relays that change-of-pace back De'Von Achane (ankle) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday. Those developments could pave the way for veteran Jeff Wilson and rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright to handle key backfield roles versus Buffalo. McDaniel declined to offer a timetable for Mostert's recovery, but said that "my sense is, it's not something that time won't take care of," per Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. The Dolphins will presumably reassesses Mostert's status following Thursday's game before a clearer picture regarding his availability for a Week 3 matchup with the Seahawks on Sept. 22 emerges.
