The Chargers released Butler on Thursday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Butler's production dwindled as the season proceeded, with no more than one tackle on the ledger in all but one of the Chargers' last eight games. Overall, he totaled 43 tackles (24 solo), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a half sack in the first complete 16-game slate since his first in 2011. Expect the 27-year-old to land in another organization to provide depth at inside linebacker, at the very least.
