The Falcons agreed to terms Thursday on a one-year, $8 million contract with Simmons, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Simmons inks with Atlanta just one day after the team traded for pass-rusher Matthew Judon from New England, and those two veteran acquisitions could be enough to revamp what previously looked like an underwhelming starting defense. Now entering his age-31 season, Simmons figures to replace Richie Grant as the starter across from Jessie Bates. Simmons has logged multiple INTs in each of his eight pro seasons, totaling 30 in his career, so he brings some much needed big-play ability to the Falcons' secondary.
