Preseason football is underway, and we're full go with our annual effort to raise money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Last year, we raised more than $100,000 and hope to do even better in 2024.

You can donate to St. Jude here, and you'll see various Fantasy Football activities we're doing as part of our Draft-A-Thon. That includes taking part in mock drafts with our CBS Sports staff, which will happen through the end of August.

I participated in a PPR mock draft with eleven Fantasy Football Today listeners, and it was fun to see the draft results stray from ADP and bring some unpredictability. D.K. Metcalf and Cooper Kupp in Round 2! Jaylen Waddle in Round 4! Kyler Murray before C.J. Stroud! Those were just some of the surprises that kept me on my toes.

I went with a Hero-RB approach with only one RB in my first seven picks. I hammered RB late in the draft, and my team is pretty loaded everywhere else. Check out my build to get an idea of how Hero-RB may look.

Of course, this was our first draft since the news of Christian McCaffrey's (hopefully minor) calf injury. One manager – Stefan Nowicki – had the unenviable honor of picking first and making the CMC decision. He did take McCaffrey, and I asked him why he drafted him and if he considered anyone else.

"The answer is upside," Stefan said. "If he's healthy, he has the highest VORP (Value Over Replacement Player). Didn't consider anyone else, given how his calf doesn't seem major."

Stefan also said he reached for Kyler Murray because "sometimes you just gotta take your guy." I love the boldness!

Make sure you check out Stefan's team and all the other teams. And thank you to everyone who donated -- and will continue to donate -- to St. Jude.

As a reference point for this mock draft, all touchdowns are worth six points, and we award one point for every 10 yards rushing and receiving and one point for every 25 yards passing. We also award one point for every reception. We feature a starting lineup of QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE and FLEX (RB/WR/TE) with six reserves for a 13-round draft.

Our draft order is as follows:

  1. Stefan Nowicki
  2. Tony Martinelli
  3. Tim Parisian
  4. John Fiske
  5. Heriberto Ventura
  6. Adam Aizer
  7. Dave Minchez
  8. Chris O'Brien
  9. Kevin Whitehair
  10. Quintin Brown
  11. Clay Carver
  12. Johnny Medeiros
