Allen (coach's decision) will serve as the No. 2 quarterback in Thursday's Week 2 matchup against the Giants, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
The 25-year-old was a healthy scratch in Sunday's season opener, but he'll step in as the primary backup behind Taylor Heinicke because Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) is expected to be ruled out for Thursday's game. Allen appeared in four games for Washington last year and completed 60 of 87 passes for 610 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.
