Toney (ankle) was working off to the side during the open portion of Wednesday's practice and is set to go down as a non-participant on the Giants' first Week 7 injury report, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Toney looks to be trending in the wrong direction for Sunday's game against the Panthers after he was only able to play six offensive snaps Week 6 before aggravating an ankle injury. Citing a source familiar with Toney's injury, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reported Tuesday that the Giants are bracing for Toney to miss at least one game, though the team is optimistic the rookie will avoid a stint on injured reserve, which would keep him out for at least three weeks. Meanwhile, Kenny Golladay (knee) was sidelined for Wednesday's practice after sitting out the Week 6 contest, and Darius Slayton (hamstring) was on the field Wednesday but may need to upgrade to full participation by Friday to put an end to a three-game absence this weekend. Sterling Shepard, who returned from a two-game absence of his own against the Rams, looks like the healthiest member of the Giants' core receivers.
