Gates (lower leg) was moved to the Giants' reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.
Gates opened training camp on the Giants' active/physically unable to perform list while recovering from a severe left leg fracture suffered last September. The 27-year-old's return timeline will now extend through at least the first four games of the regular season.
