McNichols reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday.

McNichols was elevated to the active roster ahead of the team's matchup with the Rams in Week 18, recording an assisted tackle while playing 12 snaps on special teams. With Christian McCaffrey (calf) likely back for the team's upcoming first playoff game in the divisional round the weekend of Jan. 20-21, it's unclear if McNichols will get another shot with the active roster.
