Hackenberg completed 12 of 21 passes for 126 yards, a touchdown and two picks in Saturday's preseason loss to the Giants. He also scampered for a 13-yard run during the game.
With the Jets in a clear rebuild mode, it makes sense to give Hackenberg every opportunity to show what he can do before looking to what's available in 2018. The Jets did that on Saturday, starting Hackenberg and then bringing him back at the end of the game after Bryce Petty went down. Hackenberg connected on a touchdown that almost completed an impressive comeback, but the two pick-sixes in the first half are hard to ignore. Hackenberg has now turned the ball over three times with one score in two preseason starts, while completing just over half of his pass attempts.
