Smith has claimed the Jets' No. 2 quarterback job, according to coach Todd Bowles.

Smith ran behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick this preseason, completing 17 of 32 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception in three appearances. Although those numbers are rather mediocre, Smith's bid for New York's second-string job was cemented after Bryce Petty suffered a shoulder injury during Thursday's preseason finale. While a backup job isn't exactly conducive to fantasy value, Smith remains just a Fitzpatrick injury away from entering the forefront once again.
