Jets' Zach Wilson: Officially named Week 12 starter
Head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Wednesday that Wilson (knee) will reclaim starting quarterback duties this weekend against the Texans, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
Though the Jets never officially confirmed Wilson as their Week 12 starter until the team resumed practicing Wednesday, multiple reports surfaced Tuesday indicating that the rookie received full medical clearance from the training staff following a four-game absence due to a PCL sprain of his right knee. Saleh made the matter official Wednesday, and the fact Wilson wasn't included on the Jets' initial Week 12 injury report implies that he was a full participant in the workout. At this stage, the bigger concern is the lack of available depth behind Wilson for Sunday's game, as Mike White -- who started Weeks 8 and through 10 -- and Joe Flacco -- who started in the Week 11 loss to the Dolphins -- were both placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday and are unlikely to be activated prior to the contest. The Jets plan to elevate Josh Johnson from the practice squad later this week to serve as Wilson's understudy this weekend.
