The Texans waived Slye on Thursday.

After Houston elevated Slye from its practice squad ahead of both of its first two games to handle kicking duties, the 25-year-old was officially signed to the 53-man roster prior to last week's loss to the Panthers. Though he performed capably by connecting on 11 of his 13 kicks for Houston, Slye will ultimately lose hold of the job with top kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (leg) on track to return from injured reserve for the Texans' Week 4 matchup with Buffalo. Slye shouldn't have much trouble finding an opportunity with Houston's or another organization's practice squad, if he isn't immediately claimed off waivers or signed to a 53-man roster when he clears waivers.
