The Jets released Johnson on Tuesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

While Johnson had a strong preseason finale throwing for 73 yards and a touchdown, the 35-year-old journeyman was unable to land a spot on the Jets' initial 53-man roster. With time ticking down on Johnson's career, it's possible the quarterback could consider retirement if he is unable to find a spot on another team.
