Backman was waived by the Packers on Tuesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN NFL Nation reports.
Backman's release likely has something to do with the fact he's dealing with minor knee and hamstring injuries. Richard Rodgers and Jared Cook are projected to lead the tight end corps anyway, with Justin Perillo in line to be the No. 3 option.
