Lions' Tim Boyle: On track for Week 16 start
Boyle is in line to start Sunday's game against the Falcons after Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Friday that Jared Goff (illness) is "highly unlikely" to be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list prior to the contest, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Goff has continued to test positive for COVID-19 since initially contracting the virus Monday, and the Lions aren't confident that he'll either test negative on two consecutive occasions 24 hours apart or show diminished symptoms, which he'll need to do in order to clear the NFL's return-to-play protocol. Boyle has taken first-team reps in practice all week sans Goff and is primed to make his second start in six weeks, after the latter was previously sidelined with an oblique injury Week 11. Boyle oversaw a listless Detroit offense in his team debut and first career NFL start, completing 15 of 23 attempts for only 77 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Lions' 13-10 loss to Cleveland. The Falcons defense presents a less imposing matchup than the Browns, but fantasy managers' expectations for both Boyle and the Lions' skill-position players should still be tempered.
