The 49ers released Pruitt on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Pruitt joined the Niners in June and then injured his calf late in July. The tight end was forced to miss about a month of training camp, which made him fall on the team's depth chart. On Tuesday, the 49ers cut Pruitt, as they already have enough quality options at tight end in George Kittle and Ross Dwelley.
