The severity of Brissett's right thumb issue has yet to be clarified, the Patriots' official site reports.
While initially there was speculation suggesting that Brissett may have suffered a torn ligament in his thumb, subsequent reports made the injury seem less ominous, including a report via ESPN's Dianna Russini that the QB is dealing with a sprained thumb that will not require surgery. In any case, we expect added clarity this coming week on the status of both Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo, who was inactive Thursday due to a shoulder injury. New England's next game is in on Oct. 2, against the Bills, giving the Patriots some time to evaluate the health of the two QBs on their active roster, and quite possibly add depth at the position. Of course, looming large for the team on that front is the fact the top signal-caller Tom Brady (suspension) will be eligible to return to action in Week 5.
