Garoppolo (concussion) remains in the NFL's concussion protocol as of Wednesday, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Garoppolo was unable to practice in any capacity Wednesday. The quarterback underwent concussion testing after Sunday's loss to the Steelers, and he will have to clear the league's five-step concussion protocol in order to suit up this weekend against the Chargers. Head coach Josh McDaniels said veteran Brian Hoyer and rookie Aidan O'Connell will both be preparing to start in the event that Garoppolo isn't able to clear the protocol ahead of the Week 4 contest.
