The Broncos have released placekicker Matt Prater , according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The move would save the team $2.294 million in cap space.
Prater is coming off a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He had been one of the most prolific placekickers in the sport. He is 21 for 27 lifetime on boots of 50 yards or longer.
