Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Carson (neck) will soon have season-ending surgery, though Carroll is confident the running back will return in 2022, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.

The possibility of season-ending surgery has loomed for a few weeks now, if not longer, though for a couple days Carson appeared as though he might make it back for a Week 10 game against the Packers. He returned to practice last Wednesday and Thursday, but he then was held out Friday and kept on injured reserve for the eventual loss in Green Bay. Alex Collins has been the lead man for a struggling Seattle running game in Carson's absence, with Travis Homer handling passing downs and Rashaad Penny and DeeJay Dallas hoping to regain roles at some point. Carson was designated to return from IR but will soon be officially made ineligible for the remainder of the season.
